Gwynedd Monthly Meeting was established in 1714 by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting out of Haverford [later Radnor] Monthly Meeting. Gwynedd held its first session in 12mo 1714/5. It was transferred to Abington Quarterly Meeting in 1786. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Eliza Moore Ambler Foulke (1893-1987) was a prominent member of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends. A birthright Quaker, she married Thomas Albert Foulke (1893-1962) in 1923. In 1936, Gwynedd Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued after its three preparative meetings, Gwynedd, Norristown and Plymouth, had been established as monthly meetings. The members of Gwynedd Preparative Meeting became members of this newly organized Gwynedd Monthly Meeting.
